GoTrendier
GoTrendier works to reduce fast-fashion’s environmental impact by changing Latin America’s consumption patterns towards second-hand fashion.
Problem
Fashion is the second most polluting industry on the planet. It is estimated that it emits between 8 and 10% of all CO2 emissions and is responsible for 20% of the world’s contaminated water. The fast-fashion model has duplicated clothing production from the year 2000 to 2014, clothing that is most likely made out of petroleum-derived materials, which are almost impossible to recycle.
Many women in Mexico have to take on side jobs, as wages are often excessively low (averaging 300 euros per month) needing extra income to make ends meet.
Solution
The UN states that by duplicating the usage of each individual garment compared to the current rate, we could achieve a 25% reduction in CO2 emissions. By allowing garments to complete their full life cycle and preventing them from ending up in landfills, it is possible to save up 100% of the water footprint and 80% of the carbon footprint.
Trendier allows sellers to earn an extra monthly income efficiently and from home.
Impact
By mid-2022, GoTrendier had already sold 3 million garments, thereby saving 490 million liters of water and 12,100 tons of CO2.
