Smileat
Problem
High consumption of added sugars and salts, in addition to the pesticides, chemicals and antibiotics in food, is clearly having an impact on health, particularly on children’s health. Besides, the environmental footprint of the agri-food industry is highly significant, mainly on account of poorly sustainable agricultural practices and production relocation. However, the consumption of ecological food in Spain is among the lowest in Europe, and there is a serious lack of awareness of the contents and origin of foodstuffs.
Solution
To provide healthy ecological food, with no stabilisers, chemicals, added salts or sugars, from raw materials produced in Spain, while seeking to reduce its transport-related carbon footprint to the minimum and offering maximum transparency and traceability to consumers through the use of technology.
Impact
Smileat products contain 75% less sugar and salt than the leading competitor in this category. Thanks to its product composition, Smileat plans to suppress 17,500 kg in pesticides and antibiotics in agriculture and livestock farming and 45 tonnes in single-use plastics by 2025.
